Such a masterpiece of wind writing and scoring. And really, this recording, warts and all, is probably still the best. Call it imprinting on my part if you like, but there you are. I even like this one better than the very fine Marine Band recording from about 25 years ago (also available on YouTube). That one is practically perfect in every way, but still….this Fennell account introduced the work to the band world, and I think has such great character. Just think of the great players in this ensemble who went on to stellar careers in major orchestras!!!!

Does this video really have no comments, or are they just hidden? Anyway, the beginning lured me in. From there Schoenberg pulled a fast one on me and I could no longer tell what was happening. 3/10, would shrug and wince while halfheartedly recommending.
