Review by Gloria Benavides

Other Music's album "Incidents Out of Context" is a unique and captivating musical journey that combines experimental sounds with traditional instrumentation. The band's use of electronic beats, distorted guitars, and haunting vocals creates an otherworldly atmosphere that is both eerie and beautiful.

The album's opening track "Catacombs" sets the tone for the rest of the album with its slow, brooding melody and haunting vocals. As the album progresses, tracks like "Lost in Translation" and "Ghost in the Machine" showcase the band's ability to blend different genres and create a sound that is entirely their own.

The album's standout track, "Siren Song," is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases the band's skill in crafting intricate melodies and emotional lyrics. The song's soaring chorus and delicate instrumentation make it a standout moment on the album.

About Other Music

was a contemporary music ensemble that performed the compositions of its members on original justly tuned instruments. Founded in 1975 by David B. Doty, Henry S. Rosenthal, and Dale S. Soules, the San Francisco based group created a complex and absorbing music that synthesized elements from a wide variety of historical and world-music sources. Among the group's most evident influences are the gamelans of Java and Bali, the intonational theories of Harry Partch and Lou Harrison, European modal polyphony, and the American experimental traditions. In May of 1980, recorded its first LP, "Prime Numbers" issued on the Nth Degree label. Also that year, they incorporated under the non-profit laws for the purpose of developing resources and research in the areas of new instrument design and tuning systems; and the support of ensembles dedicated to their use. Flying Fish Records released their second album "Incidents Out of Context" in 1983.

wow, talk about obscure. i bought the LP sometime in the late 80s and today pulled it from storage to give it another, long-overdue listen. thanks for posting it.
