Review by Bradford Dentist

Provenance's album Second And Last But Not Always is a unique and refreshing addition to the post-rock genre. The band's ability to blend haunting melodies with intricate instrumentation is showcased throughout the album, creating a captivating and immersive listening experience.

The opening track "Collapse" sets the tone for the album with its intense and brooding sound, while "A Million Arms" offers a more ethereal and dreamlike quality. The use of dynamic shifts and unexpected time signatures in "Silhouette" keeps the listener engaged, while "Dawn Of A New Day" provides a moment of respite with its delicate piano melody.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Only Truth," which features guest vocals from Anna von Hausswolff. Her haunting voice adds an extra layer of depth and emotion to an already powerful song. The album closes with "Last But Not Always," a fittingly epic and climactic finale.

About The Provenance

The Provenance was a metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, signed to Scarlet Records until 2005, when they moved to Peaceville Records. The band seldom conformed to a single style of music, quoting themselves as "experimental rock/metal/goth". Their lyrical themes covered a range of topics such as love, frustration, sadness and personal struggle, as well as hope in finding beauty in a bleak world. The band was always keen to try new ideas, stating that they believed "that music shall be created via lust, curiosity and joy". The Provenance ran from 1995 to December of 2008, where the band announced on their MySpace page that a mutual decision to split up had taken place.
